The Mortal Instruments Series (First 3)

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my 2nd time through this fantastic YA Urban Fantasy novel, and I just love how Cassandra Clare’s mind works, even when I hate it a little. There’s action, humor, drama, conflict, wit, badass demon hunters, and plenty of mystery, all paired with solid world building.

I’m really happy to be revisiting this series and world. I read them in print the first time, and this time I’m enjoying the audios.

My only major disappointment continues to be that the bestie won’t take the time to become obsessed with this world, so we can get matching parabatai tattoos. Big sigh. I guess I can’t win them all.

City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I remember being so angsty and impatient the first time I read this book, but this time, I had the benefit of knowledge to help defray my angst and allow me to focus on the overall story and characters even more, which was really enjoyable. However, there were some aspects of the world and storyline that I forgot about, which made the rereading of it even more fun.

It has probably been 7-ish years since I last read this series, and I’m not sure why I waited so long to revisit it. Well, I mean other than my 4K TBR pile that is always looming, but other than that….

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3)City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I forgot what a thorough ending book 3 has, as if the series could have ended right there. I like that, but I also like that the series continued. It’s one of those worlds that gets better with each new book, so I’m happy to be revisiting this.
