Initially, I did not love this story, but it grew on me by the end, enough that I felt slightly more satisfied that I hadn’t completely wasted my time.
My major complaint, beyond the initial disconnect, is that the story doesn’t end far from where it started. None of the major issues are resolved, or even addressed. None of the mysteries are answered. Threads start and then just drop. Kerplop. Never to be picked back up.
While some of the characters are interesting, the majority of them don’t change or grow.
(view spoiler)[If anything, the MC almost regresses. She is at first delusional and escapes reality, then in the end, goes running straight back to it, without having even addressed or attempted to improve or resolve the issues that sent her running in the first place. I guess we should applaud her return and hopefully the end of her really selfish and immature behavior, but it’s the fact that she doesn’t even acknowledge that her running away technically resolved nothing that probably bothers me the most. I guess I just wanted her to get somewhere, even if I didn’t appreciate the way she did it, but in reality, all she did was hide from her issues, which wasn’t that interesting of a plot.
