I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars. I decided to round up, because this is a complex Sci-Fi with a very interesting premise. It’s tech heavy and portrays a fascinating new world. I really like those things about it.
There’s also lots of action, adventure, and suspense, but it fell short for me in character development, and in particular, in emotions. Something about the development of relationships between people was lacking for me. It does have all those things to some extent (character development, emotions, and relationships), but I like to see a lot more of the internal impacts of character choices and decisions, not just the external ones.
I wanted to not just live all the stressful moments with the MC but to feel them deep in my gut, and I never really did. Possibly it’s just me, since it’s all subjective, which is why I’ve leaned up for 4 stars.
