The final book in this amazing post-apocalypse trilogy is fan-freaking-tastic! I was just going start the novel today, since it is almost 600 pages, but somehow I spent my entire Sunday reading it. I didn’t accomplish one worthwhile thing in the real world until I’d finished the whole thing, because the story is so darned compelling. I even forgot to feed myself breakfast and lunch, but despite everything I’ll have to do to catch up tonight after a whole day of reading, it was totally worth it.
I loved watching Alex step up and grow into the role of leadership in this novel. Tons of crazy, awful shit happens to the characters and in their world, but it’s all so well-told and fascinating that even when things got a bit bloody or violent, I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the page.
This was an amazing end to a wonderful series. I feel a bit sad that it’s over, but I’ll look forward to seeing what Mike Mullin writes next.
