Book Review: If Only by A.J. Pine

If OnlyIf Only by A.J. Pine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first NA, and at this point, I’m definitely sold on the category. This novel put me through the wringer in a way that made me feel twenty all over again. The voice is modern, natural, fluid, and distinct. I enjoyed every second of this story.

It was a roller coaster full of emotions, and I found it oddly reassuring to see such smart people stumble repeatedly in the face of love. Somehow, it always seems like it should be easier than it is, but that’s not the reality behind love. You have to work for it and fight for it and overcome stupidity and embarrassment for it. There were times I was rooting for everyone and other times I wasn’t sure if I should be rooting against them, but at every moment, I was captivated.

I loved everything about this story, and it gets a secret bonus star for the great setting (Scotland), a place I desperately want to visit. Also, it seems inevitable at this point that I’ll be rereading both A Room With A View and The Great Gatsby sometime in the near future. I find it fascinating to rediscover the novels that people love, or in this instance, I should say that two amazing characters love. It’s fascinating to try to experience a story through someone else’s eyes, and I feel sure I would love these characters even more if I took the time to reread both.

Read this novel. It’s delicious. (And seriously? Why is this only $0.99? You have to be kidding me. It’s worth much more than that…)
