Interview with Indie Author: Clara Grace Walker

Meet Clara Grace Walker, author of two mainstream romantic suspense novels, Gratificationand Gossip, available on Amazon. Clara grew up knowing she wanted to write.  When not bringing to life her stories of greed, desire and danger, Clara enjoys spending time at the pool, otherwise known as her “summer office.”  She also enjoys scrapbooking, travel and above all, her wonderful family, including her husband, children and two very spoiled cats.

Despite how lovely she is, I didn’t want to go easy on her in this interview, so I hit her with the hardest and most complex questions first.
Life is full of hard choices. Would you rather be a hobbit or an elf?
As much as I adore hobbits, I would definitely be an elf.  They are immortal and have the privilege of watching history unfold over long periods of time.  Also, they are tall.  Since I am a bit on the petite side, the idea of being tall has always appealed to me.
Do you have any irrational fears that you can completely justify?
I am terribly afraid of spiders.  I find my fear justified because they dangle on webs above your head and can drop down on you at any time.
Cat person, dog person, or I forgot to feed my fish, and it died?

Animal person.  Except for spiders (and anything that might eat me…lol!)  J  I have had both dogs and cats as animal companions.  Currently, I have two cats.  They are quite pampered.

Oh, I wanna dance with somebody! Would you dance with me? If so, pick a style of dance you like and the best song to go with it:
I actually love to dance!  I don’t claim to be much good at it, but I love to dance so much that I don’t care how stupid I look doing it.  Today, my friend, we are going to dance the Hustle to Van McCoy’s The Hustle
What does your favorite protagonist think about you?
Nick, my hero from Gossip, and I have a lot in common.  As such, he generally approves of me.  He does, however, think I should be less wimpy.
Tell us about your latest or upcoming novel:
Thank you for asking.  Redemptionis the final installment of the Desire Never Dies trilogy and will be published in e-book format on Amazon this spring.  In this novel we meet Earl Grayson and Mindy LePage, two characters who are mentioned in Gossip, without really appearing in the story.  And because this is the final installment of the trilogy, we will also see our previous heroes and heroines in supporting roles.  The story in Redemption takes place inside a rehabilitation facility; one that is not what the doctor ordered, and is, in fact, being run by a woman with some deeply dangerous tendencies.  There will be romance, murder, and a higher body count than in the previous two novels.  Oh, the fun we are going to have!
Share a favorite quote or small excerpt from your latest work:
I love the following excerpt from my latest novel, Gossip, because of how beautifully it illustrates an important part of the plot, and our hero, Nick’s, response to it:
Nick nodded in response to Danny’s question.  The front page showed an unflattering photograph of him as he left the police station, punching Peter Arnold in the jaw.  The story that followed was filled with rumor and innuendo, also unflattering, quoting unnamed sources who fingered Nick as the prime suspect.  A small inset picture of Janelle’s corpse outside the country club accompanied the story inside.  He’d nearly lost his breakfast seeing it.  “Yes.”  Words finally found him.  “I’ve seen it.”
What’s the toughest criticism you ever got?
I once had an agent tell me my book, (not one that I’ve published), was full of, “low-class elements” and that my heroine was, “trailer trash.”  Ouch!
What’s the biggest compliment you ever got?
Getting a 5-star rating from someone who’s read one of my books.  I find the readers’ opinions to be the ones that matter most.  J
Tell us about your cover art: Who designed it? How did you choose a direction for it?
I designed all of my book covers.  J  I had a very specific vision of what I wanted for each of the covers.  I chose to focus on a woman in a bikini to emphasize the sensuous nature of the stories; and to provide each book in the trilogy with enough similarity on the cover to showcase them as a “set” of stories.  In order to make each cover unique, however, each one also has something going on that is more specific to the title of each book.  I’d also like to give a shout-out to Kelsey von Wormer of Von Wormer Photography, who is responsible for taking the actual photos and bringing my vision to life!

Share the love with a creative shoutout to your favorite Indie book or author:

I’m going to break the rules just a bit here and give more than one.  J  Lots of author love to Jack Hayes, Mick Mears, Lorna Suzuki, Mike Wells and Elizabeth Marx.  Also lots of author love to Dave Goodlove, who is writing a romance novel in blog form.  I’m looking forward to adding B. A. Wilson to my list of favorite Indie authors.
Predict the future: Yours or mine, I’m flexible.
This prediction is for both of us.  I predict you are going to finish your novel and publish it…and then I am going to buy it!!
