Overall, I enjoyed the story. I read it once before, several years ago, before the other three were published, and I never got back to it. The setting was fantastic, the characters were interesting, and the plot was good. It was a tiny bit slow for me at times, but I do plan to read the next one. I have a feeling the books will get even better as they go along.
I find the Caster mythology and history intriguing, but I would have liked a bit more character development on some of the side characters and a bit less self-involved angsting from Lena. . . which is ironic, since on a personal level, I do my fair share of angsting. Actually, upon reflection, it might be more hypocritical than ironic. Either way, shame on me and on Lena.
